Reuban Mathew , 2017 BC Assayer Foundation Trainee Scholarship Recipient

Reuben Mathew earned his B.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Queen's University, and his M.A.Sc. in Mineral Resources Engineering from Laurentian University. He now has five years' experience as a metallurgist , and hopes to continue in the field of metallurgy in the years to come. His prior, experiences include time with the metallurgy departments at Goldcorp's Musselwhite Mine and Hudbay's Snow Lake operations. In his current position as a metallurgist with the North American Palladium Lac des Îles (LDI) mine, he has been given the responsibility to supervise the Assay Lab at LDI. The BCIT Assayer Certification Training Program (BCIT ACTP) has proven invaluable in improving safety standards at the Assay Lab. A recent inspection by the Ministry Of Labour (Ontario) passed the Assay Lab with zero work orders, indicating the thoroughness and utility of the BCIT ACTP. He sees the value of the BCIT ACTP and hopes to send as many of the Assay Lab staff as possible through the program in anticipation that they will become certified BC Assayers, a qualification which will improve the quality of work performed
